Gary Alan Hidalgo writes queer fiction with love and laughter, mining the rich vein of LGBTQ+ history. A Fantabulous! gay author, his mission is to bridge humanity with his WIP, OurQueerniverse, and better the world. His interconnected stories, which began with the swoon-worthy LMFAO romcom The Hotel Cairo and continue with the 1990s mystery series Fantabulous! turn characters’ worlds upside down and inside out to capture our community’s challenges and brilliance in the continuing journey towards equality. Gary’s narratives embrace themes of love, laughter, loss, and chosen family, relatable to everyone and celebrated by the queer community and allies.
Gary is grateful his life isn’t as interesting as his characters. He grew up in Redlands, CA, and completed his studies at California State University, San Bernardino. He worked in Hollywood for a while at Oscar-winning Soundelux before making the hop across the street, Hollywood Blvd., to DVD Express, an early e-commerce business. Later, he launched and managed the European sleep store Axel Bloom in the gay capital of West Hollywood before becoming a full-time freelance writer. Despite his boringness, Gary wrote a couple of angsty songs that were professionally published and made him an ASCAP member as well.
